Frequently Asked Question

What do I need to do to use the computer labs ?

All students using the lab must acquire an FC student ID card. FC student ID cards may be picked up in the Student Center during posted hours. Bring your student ID card to the Lab Aide the first time you use the lab. The Lab Aide will register you.

Students using the computer labs must bring their student ID card each time they use an ACT lab. In order to use a computer, students must place their student ID card in the holder provided on the computer. You will not be allowed access to the lab without your student ID card. This applies whether or not you are with a class.

Why can't I play games in the computer labs?

We have very limited resources. With over 12,000 student account holders and about 200 open lab computers, it is impossible to guarantee computer time to students working on assignments. If some of those computers are being used by students playing games it stretches our resources even further. Out of consideration to your fellow students we ask that you do not play games. For more information read the Computer Lab Policies and the Acceptable Use Policy.

If I save something on the hard drive, will it be there later?

No. Not only are the lab computers frequently "rebuilt", data stored on the hard drive can be viewed, edited and deleted by anyone using the computer. Data should always be saved to the account holder's home folder (H:) or to a floppy disk.
